Philippine American Sports Association of Arizona - Filipino Basketball League

Welcome to the Philippine American Sports Association of Arizona. This organization started a basketball league in 1996 in a remote park in Phoenix, Arizona. There were only four teams competing when it started and has now grown to about 180 members equaling to 15 teams in 2001. In 2006, the same amount of teams are expected to participate.

The schedule for the Championship games are as follows:

March 8, Saturday

2:00 pm Open League Semi-Final / Long Court

Seed #1 YaketyYak Wireless vs #6 Team Diverse

3:00 pm Seed #2 Kababayan Travel vs #4 Tony's Auto Repair

4:00 pm Executive League Championship / Long Court

Seed #1 Jeepney Bistro vs #3 Blue XO Services

5:00 pm Open League Championship

Please email names of players from your team (3 per team) and their position by March 15 that will be in the tryout on Mar. 22. If you do not provide any player, we will assume that no player from your team is able to go to the Las Vegas tournament. We need 12 players. Again, any player who is part Filipino must be able to bring any ID for proof. This is a Filipino tournament so he must be of Filipino blood and not Asian blood. Document must be provided to the Committee before he can travel with the team.

 

March 8 is the championship for the PASAA League. It will be at the Washington High School Gym, 23rd Ave. & Glendale Ave. starting at 2pm till 6pm. There are two divisions, one is the Open league ad the other is the Executive League (35 and Over). For the Executive League, gunning for the championship is Jeepney Bistro and Blue XO Services at 4pm. With the Open League, early game of the Final Four fits YaketyYak wireless against Team Diverse with the winner playing against the winner of Kababayan Travel against Tony's Auto Repair and the winners play for the championship game at 5pm.

PASAA will represent Arizona for the Open League and the Executive League in the Las Vegas tournament on May 24-25. Arizona will be competing against 12 other teams from different states. Please contact Chito Vilar at 602-488-2679 for details.

PASAA will hold its 2nd Conference for the Executive League in mid June. To coincide with this will be the Mosquito League for ages 7-12. Thirteen to fourteen years old will be screened. Those interested for the Executive League should contact Francis Clamor at 623-451-1558 and for the Mosquito League please contact Paul Alcordo at 602-380-7295.While the Open League will start again sometime by end of October.

PASAA is planning for a LIttle Olympics on June 7, 2008 with competition for Basketball, Volleyball, Chess and Table Tennis and othe sports. Please contact Cris Cabinian at 623-986-1942 for details.

Las Vegas has invited PASAA to their tournament for the Memorial Weekend, May 24-25. Only one team each division from Phoenix. PASAA Tryout for the Open Division and 35 and Over division will be on March 22 at the same gym. Open Division will be at 2:30 pm and 35 and Over will be at 4:00 pm. All managers please send the names of players you are recommending. This is only for players that are in the league. Three players per team. Must be Filipino or with Filipino blood and must bring a document if mixed race. Unfortunately, Asian blood not allowed. Must be Filipino. Again, the criteria for choosing players are:

1) Athletic ability

2) Position needs; we cannot have all guards

3) Availability; May 24-25; more likely coming back to Phoenix on the 26th

4) Attitude; no hotheads and will follow coaches instructions

Open Division: Need 12 players

35 and Over: Need 10 players (2 ex PBA in our team) maybe plus 2 alternates

Cost per player should be about $150 each max. This includes registration, uniform, accomodation and transportation. Still looking for sponsors. If you have a place of your own in Vegas or you bring your own transportation, then it is free. Registration and uniform is provided by PASAA thru Sponsors. Cost of accomodation and transportation will vary as we finalize details.
